This painting is part of the Planets Suite. For every painting I looked at the qualities associated with each planet according to the Zodiac. This included references to ancient Egyptian, Greek and Roman myths. My research took in aspects of Buddhism, Christianity, The Tarot and Alchemy whilst I painted this series.
I have tried to express in paint what Holst represented in music.

In Saturn there are references to Chronos the cruel god of time who ate his own children, the ice halo around the planet and the Holocaust.
